October 2016 | Practical Experience Report by Helga Huber, Medical Assistant and VERAH, Lower Bavaria, Germany

Patient Data and Medical History:

An 83-year-old female patient has been immobile and residing in a nursing home since June 2015. Her pre-existing conditions include type 2 diabetes, incontinence, and obesity.

Dressing change on August 3, 2015:

During the initial dressing change, we observed a contaminated and heavily reddened wound. Mechanical debridement was performed with LIGASANO® Green Scrubber; no pain was reported during the procedure. The cavities and undermined areas were filled with LIGASANO® White Dressing up to the wound edges. The wound was then covered with a 4 x 4 x 0.4 in (10 x 10 x 1 cm) LIGASANO® White Dressing. For fixation, a non-woven, elastic adhesive sheet dressing was used. Additionally, the patient was positioned on both a green LIGASANO® Pressure Relief Foam sheet and a white LIGASANO® Pressure Relief Foam sheet to reduce pressure. The dressing was changed three times a week.

Conclusion on September 16, 2016:

The wound has completely healed. However, due to excessive sweating from various medications, the patient frequently experiences macerations and new skin defects. To prevent these issues, we continue to apply sterile LIGASANO®
